Char Dham temples Uttarakhand opens May first week to November first week. The perfect time to visit Char Dham is between May and June 15. Avoid visiting Char Dham during the monsoon seasons. October is also an excellent time to visit Char Dham Temples.

Most of the Char Dham Yatra begins in Haridwar. Some tour operators may also offer Char Dham packages from Rishikesh or Dehradun.

Char Dham Yatra starts either from Haridwar or Dehradun. There are two ways to start the journey – by road and helicopter. Here is a brief description of how to reach the holy places.

By Road: You can start from Haridwar, Delhi, Rishikesh, and Dehradun. Haridwar Railway Station is the nearest railway station to these holy places. Haridwar is connected to Delhi and other major cities through a road and rail network. State transport and private buses are available to these sacred pilgrimage sites. Taxis are also available from Haridwar, Rishikesh, and Dehradun.

Complete Route for Char Dham Yatra: Haridwar – Rishikesh – Barkot – Janki Chatti – Yamunotri – Uttarkashi – Harshil – Gangotri – Ghansali – Agastmuni – Guptkashi – Kedarnath – Chamoli Gopeshwar – Govind Ghat – Badrinath – Joshimath – Rishikesh – Haridwar.

By Helicopter: Helicopter service is available from Sahastradhara Helipad, Dehradun, to Char Dham. Helicopter service is available from Dehradun to Kharsali, about 6 km from Yamunotri Temple. Harsil Helipad is the nearest helipad to Gangotri Temple, located 25 km from the temple. Helipads of Badrinath and Kedarnath Dham are also located near the temple.

Helicopter Routes – Dehradun (Sahastradhara Helipad) – Yamunotri (Kharsali Helipad) – Gangotri (Harsil Helipad) – Guptkashi Helipad – Kedarnath Helipad – Guptkashi – Badrinath – Dehradun.

  • Keep important documents like tickets, ID cards, and money in a waterproof bag.
  • Always keep a kit of essential medicines for cold, cough, and fever.
  • Also, keep band-aids and an antiseptic ointment handy.
  • It would be best if you carried sunscreen to avoid sunburn. Wear a hat and sunglasses if you are traveling in the sun.
  • Drag woolen clothing such as body warmers, sweaters, jackets, hats, socks, and gloves.
  • Carry a windcheater, raincoat, and umbrella to avoid the rain.
  • Carry waterproof shoes and a waterproof bag.
  • Carry a battery-operated torch and sufficient batteries.
  • Also, keep water and dry fruits for the way.
